The real question is not “which Netlify clone has the nicest landing page?” It is whether you want another managed deployment platform or whether you are ready to own the infrastructure underneath it. Netlify is convenient because it bundles static hosting, builds, functions, and edge behavior into one workflow; the alternatives below split that convenience in different ways. Coolify is the closest broad replacement, while Dokku and CapRover make more sense if you want a smaller self-hosted platform and can tolerate more operational responsibility.

Why people are leaving Netlify in 2026

Netlify’s pricing starts at a $9/month Personal paid tier with 1,000 credits per month. There is also a free tier with a 300 credit/month limit, while Pro is $20/month with unlimited members and selectable credit tiers. The important bit is that usage beyond the plan is metered in credits, so the entry paid tier is not “what Netlify costs” for a busy team; it is the price of getting started before usage, build activity, and traffic complicate the bill.

That credit model makes forecasting harder than the old “pay for a plan and get a defined bundle” experience many teams expect. Build minutes and bandwidth overages can add up on busy sites, especially when a project has frequent deploys, preview environments, or traffic spikes that were not part of the original spreadsheet. A $9/month entry point sounds tidy until the workload stops behaving like a brochure site.

There is also the less glamorous problem of platform gravity. Once a team builds serverless functions, edge behavior, and deployment glue around Netlify’s APIs, moving away is no longer just changing a DNS record. You may be migrating application behavior, environment handling, build configuration, and operational assumptions at the same time. The platform is pleasant right up until it becomes part of the architecture.

The alternatives that matter

Coolify

Coolify is the strongest general-purpose Netlify alternative in this group. It is an open-source, self-hostable PaaS that deploys static sites, databases, full-stack applications, and 280+ one-click services on infrastructure you control. That makes it broader than Netlify: you are not limited to frontend delivery, and you can bring the rest of the application stack into the same control plane. It also has an official cloud option, so teams can start with less infrastructure work and move toward self-hosting later.

Pick Coolify if you want the closest conceptual replacement for Netlify while also deploying databases and full-stack services. It is particularly sensible for teams that have outgrown “static site plus a few functions” and want a PaaS that runs on their own servers. The official cloud price is listed at $5/month, but the larger cost question is still the infrastructure and operational work behind the workloads you deploy.

Skip Coolify if your main goal is to eliminate all server ownership. Self-hosting gives you control over compute, storage, networking, and deployment policy, but it also gives you responsibility for those things. Coolify reduces the work; it does not make infrastructure disappear. It is a good Netlify escape hatch, not a magic eraser for platform operations.

Dokku

Dokku is the minimalist option. Its GitHub description calls it a Docker-powered PaaS for building and managing the lifecycle of applications, and its “smallest PaaS implementation” positioning is accurate enough to be useful. Compared with Netlify, Dokku is much less of a polished frontend platform and much more of a compact deployment layer for your own server. That can be exactly what you want when Netlify’s abstractions have started getting in the way.

Pick Dokku if you want a lean, self-hosted deployment workflow and are comfortable assembling the rest of the hosting environment yourself. It is a strong fit for developers who prefer a small system they can understand, configure, and troubleshoot without a large control-plane experience. The tradeoff is that the project does not list an official SaaS price, so the cost model is your server, storage, bandwidth, and time rather than a published managed subscription.

Skip Dokku if you are specifically looking for Netlify’s integrated frontend workflow, edge features, or managed serverless experience. Dokku can host applications, but “can deploy an app” is not the same thing as “recreates every Netlify primitive.” For a team with substantial Netlify-specific function and edge glue, Dokku is a platform move that will require architectural decisions, not merely a new deploy command.

CapRover

CapRover is another self-hosted PaaS built around automated Docker and Nginx management. It positions itself as “Heroku on Steroids,” with a scalable PaaS model and cluster-management ambitions. Against Netlify, CapRover sits on the infrastructure-oriented side: it gives you a way to run applications on your own servers rather than presenting a managed frontend delivery service. Its TypeScript codebase may also be attractive to teams that prefer working around a familiar ecosystem, although that alone is not a reason to migrate.

Pick CapRover if you want a straightforward self-hosted application platform with Docker and Nginx handled through a higher-level interface. It is a reasonable middle ground for teams that want more structure than a bare server but do not need a large PaaS product. It can also make sense for agencies managing several deployments where repeatable application hosting matters more than Netlify-specific frontend conveniences.

Skip CapRover if licensing clarity is a hard requirement. The live GitHub data reports the license as NOASSERTION, which is not the same thing as having a clearly stated MIT or Apache-2.0 license. Also skip it if your migration plan depends on preserving Netlify functions, edge behavior, or API integrations with minimal changes. CapRover may provide a useful destination, but the compatibility work still belongs to you.

What to watch for

The first migration trap is treating the frontend build as the whole product. Static assets are usually the easy part: move the repository, reproduce the build command, configure a deployment target, and point DNS at the new host. The harder work is everything coupled to Netlify’s APIs, including serverless functions, edge behavior, environment configuration, preview workflows, and any application code that assumes Netlify-specific request or deployment semantics. Inventory those dependencies before choosing a platform, because the migration target may change the application architecture rather than simply host it somewhere else.

The second trap is confusing self-hosting with a lower bill by default. Coolify, Dokku, and CapRover can move you away from credit-based metering, but they transfer responsibility to your servers and operations. You still need to account for compute, bandwidth, storage, backups, updates, monitoring, and failures; the data provided here does not establish a universal cost advantage for any of them. The sensible test is whether control and predictable infrastructure ownership are worth more to your team than Netlify’s managed convenience.
